A Profile of Attorney Trey Loftin
Criminal Defense | Divorce & Family Law | General Civil Trial Lawyer
Trey Loftin has served with distinction in criminal law for over a quarter of a century. He began working in criminal matters as a law student in Federal Court and The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and then served as a felony prosecutor in Tarrant County, District Court judge in Parker County, criminal defense attorney and general civil trial lawyer. Trey also was appointed as a Special Prosecutor. Trey is a 1997 graduate of the University of Tulsa College of Law, where he was the John Rogers Scholar and served as Business Editor of the Tulsa International Law Review. Trey comes from a family of attorneys. This includes his legendary father, Jerry Loftin (now of counsel), his brother Trent (now a criminal judge in CCC10), his sister (now practicing in Colorado) and his brother Justin Sisemore (with his own practice). Trey has consistently been honored by colleagues and clients for his accomplishments:
- Vice President and a Master of the Eldon B. Mahon Inn of Court, an attorney honor’s society, and was named the organization’s “Serjeant of the Inn” in 2023 as attorney of the year.
- Listed as a “Top 100 Trial Lawyer for Criminal Law” by the National Trial Lawyers Association since 2014.
- Voted by his colleagues in the Fort Worth legal community a “Top Attorney” for criminal and family law since 2013 in the Fort Worth Texas Magazine annual poll.
- Elected a “Top Attorney” in family and business law by subscribers to 360 West Magazine every year since 2016.
- Parker County Today Magazine named him a “Legal Eagle” (2021).
- Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation since 2009.
Because he understands that knowledge and skill are commonly the keys to success in the courtroom, he has won over 100 jury trials, and successfully defended all types of crimes including obtaining NOT GUILTY verdicts in Murder, Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Sex Assault, Possession, Assault Family Member, and DWI. Trey has been Board-Certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a designation he’s held for over 20 years since 2003.
A Longstanding Record of Success
As a prosecutor under former Tarrant County District Attorney Tim Curry, from 2000 to 2004, Trey successfully obtained convictions on a wide range of criminal charges, from marijuana to murder. As a prosecutor, he never lost a felony trial as first chair.
As a criminal defense lawyer, Trey has won acquittals in jury trials for clients charged with a broad range of misdemeanors and felonies, from DWI/DUI to aggravated sexual assault, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and family assault and violence to homicide, including murder, and gun, drug & possession matters.
In 2011, Trey was nominated by Texas Governor Rick Perry and unanimously confirmed by the Texas Senate to fill a vacancy as a district court judge in the 43rd Judicial District in Parker County. While on the bench, Trey presided over 24 jury trials, the most of any Parker County judges during those two years. He also handled hundreds of criminal and family law bench trials, as well as countless motion hearings. Among the cases he adjudicated were a nationally followed high-profile kidnapping and sexual assault prosecution, as well as a multi-million-dollar environmental dispute related to fracking at the Barnet Shale that affected oil and gas exploration in the entire United States.
A Legacy of Giving Back to His Community
Trey and his wife, Jennifer, to whom he has been happily married for more than two decades, have always had a strong commitment to their local community. Trey has held leadership roles with Aledo Lions Basketball, serving as commissioner since 2019. Other organizations he’s volunteered with include the Aledo Education Foundation & Bearcats and Boots, Stuard Elementary School as Watchdog and PTO President, and NEWDAY Services, a faith-based counseling program for families and children. Trey and Jennifer previously helped with the President’s National Prayer Breakfast. Long active in the Republican Party, Trey has been a member of the Republican National Committee since 2012 and has been a regulate delegate or alternate delegate to the state party convention four times in the last decade. Trey is a member of the Federalist Society as well.
Trey and Jennifer live on a small working ranch in Aledo, where they raise beef cattle and English Cocker hunting dogs. Jennifer is active in their church and has served as a Trustee of the Aledo Independent School District. They are the proud parents of four children, who have been Honors students in the Aledo schools, at Texas Tech University where his oldest son plays football, and at Oklahoma State where his oldest daughter is a Scholar Recruit. Trey grew up in Arlington, Texas, and graduated Baylor University. There, he visited Cambridge University as a student Selwyn College’s International School before attending Law School at the University of Tulsa College of Law and being a Visiting Student at the University of Texas while working for the Court of Criminal Appeals.
